Okinawa experiences coldest day this year

Because of the influence of a large cold air mass from the Asian continent, many places on Okinawa experienced the lowest temperatures this year from midnight to dawn on Feb. 9th.

In Oku, at the northernmost tip of the island, the temperature dropped to 7.6ºC at 5:05 am, which is 4.6 degrees lower than average at this time of the year.  In Itoman and Nanjo temperatures of 7.9 degrees centigrade were recorded at 6:49 a.m.

According to Okinawa Meteorological Observatory, strong winds averaging about 10 m/s on the same day made the day feel even chillier than the actual temperatures indicated.
