Tomigusuku sees record low voting rate in City Assembly election
Residents of Tomigusuku City went to the polls, Sunday, to elect a new City Assembly. The ballots were counted on the same day and results made public.
16 of the incumbents and eight newcomers won the in the election where voters seemed to be less than enthusiastic to use their power.
The voting rate decreased 1.66 % to only 49.42 %, setting a new record low from the previous election in 2011 when 51.08 % of the voters cast ballots. Only 22,181 of the 44,885 eligible voters bothered to go to the polls. 10,717 of those who voted were men, and 11,464 women.
