Yomitan Yachimun Fair introduces classic pottery

Yomitan Yachimun Pottery Fair this weekend is a chance to find unique handicrafts at bargain prices.

Yomitan is a pottery town, where its artisans are banding together this weekend to present the 22nd Yomitan Yachimun Fair.

Annually, some 20,000 people flock to the Yomitan Yachimun Fair, this time held at Farmers Market Yunta Ichiba in Yomitan, to see the free Yomitan Yachimun Fairs, which are held every couple months. This weekend’s Saturday and Sunday iteration runs 10 a.m. ~ 9 p.m., and features about 30 of the community’s pottery studios.

The Yachimun Fair is the time when local artisans show their craftsmanship, and then sell those handmade products which reflect the individuality of each potter, and at discounts of 20 ~  50%.  Yomitan Yachimun Fair is one of the biggest pottery fairs on Okinawa.  A movie about the local pottery is available for viewing at http://www.kyouhand-y.com/yachimunichi.html.
