Count Basie to be honored at JASDF Concert
Commemorating the 30th anniversary of musician Count Basie’s death, the Japan Air Self Defense Force is paying homage at a Saturday concert in Ginowan City.
The 29th JASDF Southwestern Air Band Regular Concert is free, taking place at the Okinawa Convention Center. Doors open at 5:20 p.m. for the 6 p.m. concert. Although admission is free, guest must have a numbered entry ticket available from the main gate of the JASDF in Naha at 301 Toma, from the Okinawa Convention Center at 4-3-1 Mashiki, or from TSUTAYA stores in Naha, Itoman, at the Ginowan Uehara store and the Iso store in Urasoe City.
The band is to play Count Basie songs, as well as having an Afro-Cuban jazz stage Luis Valle, a Cuban trumpeter, as a guest. The 43-year-old musician studied piano and trumpet in Havana, and now packs his performances with a dynampic athosphere with a dance-inducing beat.
Parking at the Convention Center is very limited, and organizers recommend using parking spaces adjacent to Ginowan Marina. Parking is ¥300 per day per car.
