Influenza forces closing of school in Naha

School and medical officials have decided to close Yasuoka Junior High School in Naha for three days from Apr. 22nd through 24th because of an increasing number of influenza infections among students.

According to the school doctor, there are currently 5 to 6 students on average in every class who have caught influenza, mainly in the second and third grade.  The 5th grade class in Kamimori Junior High School in Urasoe City will also be closed for the same period.

According to the prefectural government, as of Apr. 21st, no warning for an influenza epidemic has been issued in Okinawa.  It’s rare to close schools this time of the year, and even during the winter season when influenza is more prevalent it is not common to close schools.
