Okinawa City Police arrested a Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force petty officer on suspicion of drinking and driving early Sunday morning in Okinawa City.

According to Okinawa Police, 26-year-old Shungo Kimura is suspected of driving drunk on a street in Uechi, Okinawa City, around 5 a.m. on Apr. 26th.  A resident living nearby called police after hearing a sound of a car hitting something.

The police patrol arriving at the scene found a car with Kimura sitting inside.  A breathalyzer test showed Kimura had more than five times the legal limit of alcohol in his breath.

When questioned, Kimura admitted that he had been drinking but denies that he had been driving his car stating, “It’s true I drank alcohol that night but I did not drive.” He continues to deny the suspicion.
