Nanjo Craft Fair brings artisans and public together

Fierce looking shisa are ready to protect the house.

Tamagusuku Comprehensive Gym is the venue for the 4th Craft Fair in Nanjo that will open its doors tomorrow and run through the weekend. Professional craftsmen from all around Okinawa are scheduled to gather to Nanjo and display and sell their works at the fair.

Organizers say that the aim of the event is to connect craftsmen and the public face ti face in order to let the public to feel on a personal level the beauty of handmade crafts, and the warmth the works exude.

The craft fair has plenty of pottery.

More than 40 craftsmen including makers of pottery, dyed fabrics, woodwork and other crafts are present at the venue. There will also be food stalls in case a visitor finds him of herself in need of nourishment between inspecting the pieces.

This fair is a good chance to get the feeling of genuine Okinawan craft works, talk directly with artisans and find great buys.

The Craft Fair in Nanjo will run 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
