Civic group asks U.S. president, ambassador to meet governor

A civic group protesting the new base construction at Henoko, ‘Wankara Citizens’ Association’ (Wankara shimin-no kai), announced to organizing a protest ally in front of the U.S. Consulate General Naha from noon on May 20th.

As part of the rally, the group intends to hand over to the consulate a written request for the immediate cessation of the construction work at Henoko.  The group representatives visited the Press Club in the Prefectural Government Building in Naha on May 13th, and called for local people to join in the rally.

In their written request, they will ask U.S. President Barack Obama and U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy to have a meeting with Okinawa Governor Takashi Onaga.
