Eisa Nights showcase Okinawa City Eisa traditions

With the end of the year’s rainy in sight, the season for traditional Okinawan Eisa is about to start.

Youth associations from various parts of central Okinawa take turns to perform at Eisa Nights. In the picture, Yamasato Eisa group.

The Okinawa City Tourism Association is hosting a series of Eisa Nights starting this Sunday and continuing every weekend through Sunday, Aug 16. Eisa groups of youth associations and children’s groups from various parts of the middle Okinawa (Chubu) perform in Okinawa City Eisa Nights.

The first event takes place at The Koza Music Town Sound Market first floor open space starting at 19;00. The second Eisa Night a week later on Sunday, Jun. 21st is held on the open space in front of the Okinawa City Hall, followed by various other venues.

Okinawa City was named the official “Eisa City” in a ceremony on July 13th, 2007.

Most of the participating groups are local youth associations from the Chubu area, and later will later take part in the annual All Okinawa Eisa Festival that takes place Sep. 4th through 6th.

All Eisa Nights are free of charge. Saturday events start 19:30 and events on Sundays at 19:00.
