OIST chamber music concert to focus on “Brahms and artists he loved”

Machiko Shimada plays violin in OIST chamber music concert “Brahms and artist he loved.”

Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University is staging a chamber music concert under the title “Chamber Music Concert – Brahms and the artists he loved.”

The concert takes place at the OIST auditorium on Jun 29th starting at 7 p.m.  Doors to the venue open 30 minutes earlier.

The concert is free, but advance reservations are required. Reservations are accepted on line starting 10 a.m. on Monday, Jun. 15th at http://www.oist.jp/concert

The concert features Machiko Shimada playing violin and Kei Toguchi on flute. Hitomi Takara plays the piano.

The program consists of Johannes Brahms’ Violin Concerto in D major Op. 77, which is the only violin concerto Brahms ever made. He dedicated the concerto to his friend violinist Joseph Joachim, who regarded it as one of the four great German violin concertos, the other three being composed by Beethoven, Bruch and Mendelssohn.

Robert Schumann’s Three Romances Op. 94 forms the centerpiece of the second part of the concert.

Hitomi Takara accompanies by piano.
