Suspected accomplice in Naha assault and robbery questioned

Naha Police interviewed on voluntary basis an airman in his 20’s stationed on Kadena Air Base, Thursday, regarding a robbery and assault that took place on Kokusai Street in Kumoji, Naha, May 24th. A 26-year-old Marine Sergeant has been arrested and is in Japanese custody as a suspect.

The airman is suspected of having been an accomplice in the case.  The airman is currently being detained by the military police.

Japanese police have not announced whether the airman has admitted to the charges or any details of his statement during the questioning.

The incident happened at about 5:30 in the morning on May 24th on Kokusai Street in Kumoji, Naha.  A 26-year-old Marine Sergeant from Camp Hansen is accused of punching the face of a 21-year-old Okinawan man’s face breaking his cheekbone, and then taking ¥4,000 in cash from his wallet.
