Weekend Tomigusuku Festival is cancelled
The Tomigusuku Festival that was scheduled for Saturday and Sunday has been cancelled because of typhoon Halola that is forecast to bring heavy rain and winds to the island especially on Saturday,
Besides being known as the place through which Haarii or Dragon Boat Races were introduced to Okinawa some 600 years ago, Tomigusuku is known for its summer festival that features a variety of stage performances and special guests.
The annual Tomigusuku Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday, July 25th and 26th at Chura Sun Beach multi-purpose area at Toyosaki Seaside Park. The festival runs from 1 to 9 p.m. on both days. Admission to the festival is free.
The festival features an Eisa performance
by local people, traditional performing arts and dance shows, and popular and famous idol groups and singers opn stage. The latter include Okinawan groups and singers that are popular throughout Japan, like DA PUMP, MAX and Daichi Miura, and Civilian Skunk. In addition, many local idols and comedians from in and out of the island are scheduled to entertain people and attract people to have a good time in Tomigusuku City.
Fireworks end the festival on both days. Chura Sun Beach is at about 15-minute-drive south of Naha Airport.
