Okinawa Food Flea cancelled due to approaching typhoon
Typhoon Goni, which is expected to come near Okinawa this weekend has prompted organizers of the Okinawa Food Flea to cancel the event.
The event was scheduled for this Sunday at Ginowan Marina, but typhoon Goni is passing the island, and is expected to bring inclement weather to Okinawa. Organizers say a substitute date for the event will be announced later.
The Food Flea is a family fun event with live entertainment, handicraft market and, of course, food items of every imaginable kind. Many of them are novelty products that their creators are bringing to the public for the first time. Many small stores and shops that make delicious products using top quality ingredients, but are known only among people who have a palate and passion for special treats, set a shop at the event.
There are more than 50 stores taking part, including bakery, hamburger, and coffee shops, French and Italian food stalls, Japanese Style Izakaya pubs and plenty of more. Several are taking part for the first time, such as Captain Kangaroo Hamburger Shop we introduced in Japan Update a few weeks ago.
This being a true flea market, there is a musical instrument store, furniture shop and fabric store as
well. Music live performance is planned to take place. For more information like individual stores, visit Okinawa Food Flea facebook page (in Japanese) at https://www.facebook.com/okinawafoodflea
The food Flea takes place on Sunday, Aug. 23, at Ginowan Marina from noon to 6 p.m. Free parking is available at the Marina and surrounding areas. Ginowan Marina is located nest to Okinawa Convention Center at https://goo.gl/d6uSlu
