Okinawa aims to get ¥300 billion for fiscal 2016

Shunichi Yamaguchi, the Minister of State for Okinawa and Northern Territories Affairs, announced officially on Aug. 2nd that he’s requesting the budget guidelines for the Okinawa Development Budget would be about ¥300 billion for the fiscal 2016, about 10 percent down from fiscal 2015 when the budget was ¥334 billion.

Okinawa Governor Takeshi Onaga is slated to meet Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Aug. 7th, and request that the budget from the central government be set at ¥300 billion.

Yamaguchi paid a visit to Okinawa on the same day, and visited the western part of the former Futenma Housing Area on Camp Foster that is the site of the relocation of the University of the Ryukyus Hospital and a new cancer treatment facility.

He also visited the potential site of the planned USJ theme park next to the Ocean Expo Park in Ishikawa, Motobu Town.
