Elderly shellfish collector found drowned off Yomitan
A passerby found an elderly woman floating face down in the ocean in Takashiho, Yomitan Village, late Tuesday afternoon, and called the police.
The woman was taken to a hospital in a cardiac and respiratory arrest, but attempts to resuscitate her were not successful, and she was confirmed dead about an hour later.
According to Kadena Police, the woman was identified as a 72-year-old resident of Kitanakagusuku Village. Police say there were no signs of trauma on her body. When found, she was carrying a bag of shellfish.
