Japanese sailor arrested for drunken assault

Okinawa City Police arrested Friday a 24-year-old Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force sailor on suspicion of an assault.

According to police, Leading Seaman Tomoki Kayashima, stationed on the JMSDF escort vessel Amagiri, is suspected of assaulting two male employees at a bar in Sonda, Okinawa City, about 2:45 in the morning on Sep. 4th,

Police say the fight started after the two employees warned Kayashima to stop harassing a female customer at the bar despite the woman repeatedly asking him to stop and saying she did not want anything to do with him. Kayashima is suspected of kicking and punching the male employees on the face. The employees then called police.

Kayashima was allegedly heavily drunk and unable to stand by himself when he was arrested. He also has denied the charges.
