Local makers introduce “Kariyushi” shirts for suits
Okinawa Prefectural Clothing and Needlework Industry Association has started to sell Kariyushi dress shirts intended for use with a suit and tie.
According to an association press release, a limited lot of 375 shirts went for sale at Ryubo Department Store in Naha on Oct. 15th. The shirts were designed under the supervision of Hiroshi Morioka, a popular Japanese fashion director and stylist.
The shirts have long sleeves, and some are accented with traditional Okinawan patterns on the collar, cuffs and back, while the others feature traditional woven patterns over the whole shirt. They are available in 15 different colors and nine styles. Three local Kariyushi shirt makers made the shirts. They’re priced at ¥9,800 and ¥12,000.
