Starting five years ago at Camp Foster Community Center as a library event for those enthusiastic about manga and comics, the annual MCCS Comic Con has grown into one of the biggest, most successful and popular events of its kind on the island.

So much so that this year the event has mushroomed over to Foster Field House Gym and the Ocean Breeze Club with some events still taking place at the Community Center.

Comic Con takes place on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. followed by a masquerade ball at 8 p.m.

The day’s activities include various tournaments and contests for both kids and adults, movie viewings, panel discussions and seminars, workshops and autograph sessions. Food vendors are also stand-by in case all the day’s activities require extra energy.

The 5th Comic Con is open to U.S. ID card-holders and Japanese nationals. Admission to the event is free. This is a gathering of those daring to go where few men and women have gone before, offering a fantasy fortress to examine all things relating to science fiction and fantasy comic books, graphic novels and movies.
