Shigira Resort has it all in one location

“Unforgettable and extraordinary” are hardly the words enough to describe the Shigira Resort on Miyako Island.

By far the largest resort complex in Okinawa Prefecture is located on Miyako Island, about a 45-minute flight southwest from Naha, or a three-hour flight from Tokyo.

With its first hotel in the location opening in 1993, the complex now has four hotels, a 18-hole Shigira Bay Country Club golf course, Shigira Ougon Onsen featuring a natural hot spring that flows from 1,250-meter deep well and features a café and gym, a number of beaches and numerous restaurants and shops. Naturally, the Shigira Resort offers every imaginable marine activity and plenty more on land.

The accommodations range from absolute luxury with private pools to family friendly.

The philosophy when creating this amazing hotel complex was to design a resort that is in perfect harmony with the surrounding nature.

Currently, the resorts has four hotels; The Shigira, Shigira Bayside Suite Allamanda, Hotel Breeze Bay Marina and Wellness Villa Brisa. According to company spokeswoman, they are still planning to build many different kinds of hotels, house and condos on their huge property. More ships and a park designed specifically for children are also in the works and opening soon.

The beach and snorkeling vistas at Shigira are next to none, and open all year around.

Shigira Resort aims to cater to every kind of customers from families to absolute luxury for those most demanding. Or as Shigira Resort spokeswoman Cindy Kawaguchi puts it, “Our concept is to provide unforgettable and extraordinary.”

Of the accommodations, Allamanda features a small private pool just outside every room. The rooms also feature a special day bed for a nap, and the 60 square-meter rooms are large enough to accommodate three people comfortably.

The Breeze Bay Marina has rooms especially suitable for families, and have a kitchenette and laundry.

Foreign guests are welcomed with an English speaking staff. Menus in restaurants and road signs in the area are also in English.

The resort offers seasonal packages and specials. They are also ready to plan individual packages for any occasion or party.

The PGA champion grade golf course has an ocean view from every hole.

There’s live entertainment and game events throughout the year, and during the Christmas season the whole resort is covered with festive illumination. A countdown party is held on the beach to welcome the new year.

The champion-grade 18-hole gold course on the property boasts ocean view from all holes and offers discounts on green fees for hotel guests.

There are all in all 15 different restaurants on the property. Two are for breakfast and three for lunch with two more open for lunch on weekends.

Tropical flowers grow all over the premises with some in bloom any time.
