Drunk woman driver fatally hits man crossing street

Naha Police arrested a woman after the mini car she was driving fatally hit a pedestrian.

According to police, 41-year-old unemployed Kaori Matsukawa from Mihara, Naha City was arrested on suspicion of reckless driving resulting in the death of 53-year-old businessman Mitsuhiro Kinjo. Police say that about midnight, Nov. 18th, Matsukawa was driving her car and veered onto the oncoming lane and hit Kinjo who was crossing the street on a pedestrian crosswalk in Sakaemachi, Asato, in Naha City.

The impact caused Kinjo’s body hurtling about 10 meters in the air crashing into the door of a local police box. He was taken to a hospital where he was confirmed dead about an hour later.

Kinjo, a resident of Daido, Naha City, was a businessman and the president of the Mawashi Junior High School PTA.

According to police, a subsequent breathalyzer test showed Matsukawa had about six times the legal limit of alcohol in her breath. She reportedly told police, “I drove my car under influence and hit something, but I don’t know what I actually hit.”
