Okinawa Bread & Sweets Festa to tickle people’s sweet tooth

No matter what our current preferred diet devised to finally take control of our waistlines says, most people cannot resist the aroma of just baked bread or sweets.

People were waiting in line despite of rainy weather.

A festival making an unabashed counter assault on our battle of the bulge is scheduled to take place this Sunday, Nov. 15th, at the West Picnic Space of Nishihara Yonabaru Marine Park at Agarizaki, Nishihara Town (https://goo.gl/u7nWI4).

The previous Okinawa Bread and Sweets Festa took place last spring on Senaga Island in Tomigusuguku attracting more than 4,000 people to attend in spite of the rainy weather. Because of problems with limited parking space available on Senaga, organizers decided to move the venue to Nishihara Yonabaru Marine Park in Nishihara City, which has parking for 1,100 vehicles. More visitors are also expected to come to the event this time.

There are hundreds of small bakery and pastry shops across the island. Organizers selected 40 most popular and reputable among them that were invited to attend the event with the emphasis on healthy and natural ingredients in their products.

There will be shops specializing in sandwiches, croissants, coffee, baked goods, wild yeast bread, mango sweets, bagels, Japanese ‘ohagi’ bean cakes, a honey shop and more. They suggest visitors bring a blanket or tarp, and enjoy the event as a picnic with the whole family and friends.

Details of the event are in Japanese on facebook.

The event will be held rain or shine on Sunday, Nov. 15th, from 11:00 to 16:00. Admission to the event, including parking in the area, is free.
