Okinawa Food Flea grows to largest food event on Okinawa
Everyone loves rummaging through flea markets, and even more people like visiting food related events. So why not combine the two?
That might have been the thinking of people behind events called Okinawa Food Flea, the first of which took place about a year ago. Now on its 5th edition, the Food Flea on Sunday, Nov. 29th, takes place at Ginowan Marina and, according to organizers, has grown into the largest food event on the island.
The previous event took place only last month when it was held for the first time at Ginowan Marina, and attracted huge crowds of people from all walks of life. The number of participating stores has increased every time. This time, the more than 50 shops are scheduled to have a stall at the market. Three new food vendors will be coming to the event at this point. Those are curry restaurant ‘Ajitoya’, world famous ‘Roy’s Okinawa’ and food vendor operating from a car ‘Le temps riche’, in addition to all vendors from the last event.
The event also features craft shops, and four new shops, Enishi, Dr.Martens, Shiroma Bike and Gira-Gira Chari-ya are scheduled to participate.
There is a lawn area at the event site, so it’s a good idea to have a picnic right by the ocean.
The event runs from noon to 18:00. A map of the venue and parking space is at https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=zTzDcXyTlyq0.kWsGnPX3aHW4
Since there is not enough free parking space, organizers advise visitors to park in the pay parking area adjacent the event site if the free parking lot is full. The pay parking costs ¥300 for the whole day.
Admission to the event is free. The latest information on the Food Flea is on Facebook (in Japanese).
