A fire broke out on the second floor of a two-story apartment in Miyazato, Uruma City, about 21:00, Friday.

A passerby noticed smoke and fire coming out from the apartment window, and made an emergency call to Uruma City Fire Department that dispatched eight fire engines to the scene, which doused the flames in about three hours.

According to police, one of he rooms on the second floor of the building was destroyed in the fire, and a body of a female was found in the ruins. Although the body has not yet been identified, a woman said to be in her 50’s or 60’s had been living in the room, and police has not been able to contact her.

Police are continuing their investigation to the cause of the fire and the identity of the body.
