Yonabaru man nabbed for drug smuggling attempt

Yonabaru Police arrested a 44-year-old self-employed man, Nov. 9th, on suspicion of importing several kinds of illegal drugs. The man claims that he did not know the goods shipped to him were illegal drugs, and has denied the charges.

The man is suspected of conspiring with several people to import about 30.37g of drugs and plants, including registered and officially listed drugs, and had them delivered from a post office in England to his home in Yonabaru on Apr. 27th this year. Upon the arrival of the package at the Haneda Airport in Tokyo, the Yokohama Customs Office identified the drugs in a plastic bag in the shipment by an X-ray examination.

Yonabaru Town Police, the Prefectural Police Organized Crime Control Division and Okinawa Customs jointly investigated the case.
