Farmers themselves bring their organically grown vegetables for sale at Nuchigusui Festa.

‘Nuchi gusui’ is an Okinawan expression meaning ‘life’s medicine’ as eating good food, chatting with friends and having a good, relaxed time in general is essential of a human’s wellbeing.

The 4th Nuchigusui Festa at Okinawa City Farming Training Center is as event that highlights organic and natural farming of vegetables. Event organizers believe these farming methods increase the safety of foods, and reduce the effects of the farming on the environment. Thus, they want to offer public a chance to re-realize the value of the local dietary culture and advance food education.

The festival is also a sales event, where people can purchase fresh and safe organically grown vegetables from farmers face-to-face. The two-day event runs 10:00 ~ 16:00 on both Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 27th and 28th, at the Okinawa Farmer Training Center. Admission to the festival is free.

Healthy food cooking contest is on Sunday.

In addition to veggies, there’s a demonstration showing how to make fermented fertilizer, and a healthy food cooking contest on Sunday. Live mini concerts and ground golf are also available.

The Nuchigusui Festa venue is next door to Noborikawa Farmers’ Market. To get to the Festa, from Kadena Air Base Gate 3, go straight toward Chibana Housing and Camp Shields. Nearing Route 329, the market is on the left, just before the intersection.
