Record rainfall soaks Miyako, Nakagusuku
Hirara and Kagamihara districts on Miyako Island experienced a record-setting rainfall for April in the morning of Apr. 13.
The Hirara district on Miyako recorded 137.5mm rainfall in just three hours from 05:50 through 08:50. In Kagamihara, 120 mm of rain was recorded within the same period. For Kagamihara, the deluge marked the largest rainfall ever recorded within an hour, and the rainfall over a 24-hour period set a new record as well.
On Okinawa main island, Nakagusuku Village was flooded with rain about 11:00 on the same day that caused some residents living near a cliff to escape to a nearby cafe because they feared for a landslide.
