Ishigaki voted best dive area in Japan for 16th time
Ishigaki Island was voted the most popular diving destination in Japan by readers of diving magazine Marine Diving.
This is the 16th consecutive year that the magazine’s readers have chosen Ishigaki as the best in Japan. The readers also voted Kabira Bay, also on Ishigaki, to the 9th best beach in Japan. The Marine Diving magazine held a ceremony to announce the winners at a diving fair in Tokyo in April.
Masakazu Adaniya, the Chairman of Yaeyama Diving Association, says diving in Ishigaki area is a remarkable experience. “For example, manta rays can be seen in the waters surrounding Ishigaki throughout the year. There are very few place that can boast about that,” Adaniya explains. He also credits the beautiful ocean and corals in the area as being very attractive.
“The number of tourists to Ishigaki is increasing, and the name of the Ishigaki Island is becoming more popular each year. And that very good news!” Adaniya concludes.
