Korean Airlines starts direct flights to Okinawa
The Korean Airlines, the national flag carrier of South Korea, started regular flights between Naha and Seoul from May 6th. As a good omen for the future of the route, officials at the Korean Airlines pointed out that the first flight was running at 95% of capacity.
The company is scheduled to run one round trip per day until Oct. 29th. The number of visitors from Korea is increasing rapidly, and officials also aim to push for more Okinawan visitors to Korea.
Currently, seven companies operate the routes between Naha and Korea. According to officials at OCVB, 332,000 people from Korea visited Okinawa last year marking the highest number on record. Koreans make about 20% of foreign visitors to Okinawa.
