Nago City traditionally organizes one of the best fireworks show for its Summer Festival.

Blue skies and beer are the themes for the 38th Nago Summer Festival that takes place at Nago Fishing Port on July 30 and 31st.

Besides fresh Orion beer from the nearby brewery, the two-day event features dance performances, children eisa, hero character shows and many other events. The free festival runs from 13:00 to 21:00 both on Saturday and Sunday.

Nago City is the largest municipality in northern Okinawa. This summer’s festival features over 50 stalls selling food, beverages and various non-food items. The fireworks at the end of both evenings are considered one of the most spectacular among the many on Okinawa. The fireworks will burst open like flowers over the heads of the audience, producing plenty explosive sounds and brilliant lights. The spectacle can be enjoyed from various locations in Nago. 1,000 fireworks will be launched each day beginning at 20:00.

One of the most appreciated features of the Nago Summer Festival is that there’s plenty of free parking for visitors within a walking distance from the festival grounds in the fishing port area. And as always, organizers remind visitors to plan for a designated driver for a return trip in case they intend to indulge in some frosty suds produced just across a couple of city blocks from the festival grounds.
