Kishimoto chosen to Japan National Basketball team

Japan Basketball Association announced Monday the names of 14 members for the national team to play in the 38th Men’s William Jones Cup tournament, which runs from July 23rd through 31st in Taipei, Taiwan.

Ryuichi Kishimoto, the captain of the Ryukyu Golden Kings was chosen to the team as the first member of the Kings to be picked for the national team.

Kishimoto is from Yabu, Nago City. He graduated from Kitanakagusuku High School and Daitou Bunka University in Tokyo, and joined the Kings in 2013. In the season 2013-2014, the Kings won the league championship with Kishimoto successfully leading the team as one of its commanding players. He also was named the MVP in the playoffs that season. Kishimoto also led his team to the final championship of the bj-League as the captain.

Tsutomu Isa, the head coach of the Kings, says. “I hope he gains great experience as a member of the national team. He has top class speed, power and fast judgment skills, so he certainly fits the national team.

Kishimoto himself stated, “I will play my best as a representative of the national team, and also as a representative of Okinawan people.”

Kishimoto will join the national team training camp from July 18 in Tokyo, and play in the tournament in Taiwan from the 23rd. In addition to the Japanese national team, teams from Egypt, India and Korea, and the California University team will join the tournament.
