One dead, one in coma in weekend water accidents

Two water-related accidents took place at northern Okinawa beaches over the weekend leaving one Korean tourist dead and a boy from Hyogo Prefecture in coma.

A 32-year-old female tourist from Korea, Kim Ji He was found floating face down off Anchi Beach under Sesoko Bridge in Motobu, Friday morning.

Another tourist noticed Kim and notified the beach staff, who recovered her. She was taken in a cardiac arrest to a hospital where she was pronounced dead on the same morning.

People swimming at a beach by Kouri Bridge in Nakijin Village found a 6-year-old boy floating on the ocean abound 14:50 on Saturday.

According to Motobu Police, the boy from Hyogo Prefecture had come to the beach with his family. He had been playing off the beach with his older brother when he suddenly panicked and went under water.

He was taken to a hospital in the middle part of the island by a medical helicopter, where he remains unconscious in coma.
