Sunday program features a musical drama and dance performance “Song and Dance Galaxy.”

Okinawa National Theater will stage a show titled “We Live On Five Continents Ⅱ” on Oct. 29 and 30 as a part of the ongoing 6th World Uchinanchu Festival.

The show was inspired by various civic groups of Okinawan emigrants that they have established in heir respective countries. According to Okinawa Prefecture estimates, over 400,000 people that can trace their roots back to Okinawa now live in every part of the world. When these people moved to their respective countries they took their traditional fold art with them, and continued performing them often to alleviate homesickness and also to retain the memory of their origin.

Now that the world has become more connected than ever, they have become the connection between Okinawa and the rest of the world spreading the awareness of Okinawan culture to every corner of the earth.

This show highlights sanshin music and traditional Okinawa dance performances by traditional arts performers and entertainment groups who are active at various parts of the world.

“Zo odori” is one of the most popular traditional dances.

Saturday, Oct. 29th program features as guests “Lequios Arts Club Eisa” from Brazil and “The West Coast～Nankurunaisa ～” with members from from the U.S. and Canada who perform Eisa. Both groups put out truly energetic Eisa performances.

Sunday, Oct. 30 show includes traditional Okinawa dance performances and eisa. In addition, a kumiodori-style dance performance titled “Sing and Dance Galaxy” consisting of a variety of songs presents a powerful and creative performance.

These show starts at 14:00 on both days. The Okinawa National Theater has free parking available for about 209 cars. The theater is located just south of Camp Kinser..

Admission to the event is ¥3,100 for adults, ¥2,000 for university and high school students, and ¥1,000 for children under high school age from 3 years old. Ten percent discount is available for groups of over 10 people. Adult tickets for people with a participant pass to the 6th World Wide Uchinachu Festival cost ¥2,480.
