Two re-arrested on suspicion of possessing, growing, selling pot

Ginowan Police and the Drug Law Enforcement Administration Okinawa Branch rearrested Monday two local men on suspicion of possession and sale of cannabis.

According to police, 37-year-old Masayuki Tawata, and Nobukatsu Ishigaki, also 37 years old, were arrested after investigators discovered more than one kilogram of cannabis with a street value of over ¥5 million in their possession. The stash is the largest police has confiscated on Okinawa this year.

Tawata and Ishigaki are suspected of growing the cannabis in shipping containers kept in the Inanse district of Urasoe City. Investigators also suspect that the two men sold some of the cannabis, a charge that the suspects are reportedly denying. They insist that they grew the weed for their own use only.

The two suspects were first arrested on Oct. 3rd on suspicion of possession of cannabis after police discovered about 300 cannabis plants inside the containers.
