Nanjo homeowners show their green thumb skills

Every spring and fall since 2010, private homeowners in Nanjo City have opened the gates to their private gardens to show the public the results of their labors and skills of their green thumb.

This year the event takes place starting Nov. 19 and runs nine days through Nov. 27.

Nanjo City Tourism Association sponsors the event that is organized for the 13th time this year. 19 gardens take part this time. The gardens are open daily from 10:00 to 17:00 during the nine-day timeframe.

In order to appreciate the beautiful gardens, visitors are required to purchase a passport set for ¥500. High school students and younger children are free. Visitors can appreciate all the yards any number of times during the once they have the passport.

People can go the gardens using their own transportation and schedule if they wish, or take an organized bus tour. For schedule, contact Nanjo City Office. Female visitors must not use high heel shoes, and no pets are allowed.

Advance tickets go for sale from Nov. 12, and are available at Ganjyu Station at Kudeken and Keibin Museum. After the event commences, tickets are also available at the Souvenir Hall next to Ganjyu Station, Sugar Hall and Yuinchi Hotel Nanjo.
