Radio-controlled model plane fatally crashes into operator

The operator of a radio-controlled model plane was killed Sunday afternoon when the place crashed on his face in the Haebaru district of Katsuren, Uruma City.

According to Uruma Police, 65-year-old Yoshio Odo was killed when a radio controlled model plane he was operating ran into his face for some reason.

Odo was flying the plane investigators say was about 1.2-meter long, with several of his friends around watching, when it suddenly came straight to him and hit him on the left side of his face.

One of his friends at the scene made an emergency call, and Odo was taken to a hospital where was confirmed dead.

The Police are investigating the details of the accident.

According to Uruma Police, amateur radio-controlled plane enthusiasts often gather to fly planes at the site, and Odo used to come there as well. Okinawa Meteorological Observatory said that, the prevailing wind at the location was northeasterly with a speed of 6.5 meters per second when the accident occurred.
