A passer-by placed an emergency call to Okinawa Fire Department reporting smoke and fire in a private house in Kubota, Okinawa City, Friday afternoon.

The fire department dispatched seven fore engines to the site that doused the fire in about an hour. After the fire, the firefighters discovered a burnt body of a woman in the ruins of the house.

According to Okinawa Police, they have not been able to contact the woman in her 90’s who reportedly lives in the house, and they suspect that she’s the victim.

Okinawa City Police and Fire Department officials are investigating the cause of the fire. The site is a tightly residential area, about 200 meters east from the national route 330. The house is a 2-story reinforced concrete building, and the fire destroyed a part of the 1st floor.
