189 passengers stranded on KAB for 2.5 hours

Because of a mishap by JASDF fighter aircraft caused the temporary closure of the runway at Naha Airport, Japan Airlines flight 909 from Haneda to Naha was diverted to Kadena Air Base about 2:20 p.m. on Monday.

The aircraft with all of its 189 passengers onboard had to wait for more than 2.5 hours before being able to take off at 4:55 p.m. after the runway at Naha was re-opened.

Before the take-off, the aircraft was refueled, and it arrived at Naha airport at 5:23 p.m., about 3.5 hours behind the schedule.

JASDF T4 training aircraft from the Naha Air Base also landed at K.A.B. about 2:14 p.m.
