Large rock from quarry hits public hall in Nago
A large rock slipped down from a quarry in Nago around noon Thursday, an hit the wall of “Buumakami Asagi Hall” about 80 meters below. No one was injured, but a water pipe in the hall was damaged.
The rock was about 3 by 4 meters in size and broke through the protective iron wall in the quarry.
According to the company operating the quarry, there also was a 6-meter-deep ditch to prevent a rock fall, but the rock just ran over it.
According to the company, the accident occurred during a blasting operation. Local residents said that blasting is executed at noon and 5 p.m. each day preceded by sounding of warning sirens.
