The 5th Okinawa International Movie Festival started yesterday (Thu) with a welcome party at ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Okinawa Harborview with some 500 guests in attendance.

Kiyoshi Nishikawa, a TV personality, said, “Many people including students worked to prepare this festival, and I would like to say thank you all.”

The festival is scheduled to feature many events at various venues on Okinawa and remote islands, like Iheya, Miyako and Ishigaki.

The festival will run through Sunday (Apr. 23). The official opening ceremony was held Friday on a stage at Umisora Park from 4:30 p.m. The red-carpet ceremony, the main event of the festival takes place on Kokusai Street starting at noon on Sunday.
