Yaese Town Assembly vice chairman caught for DUI

Itoman Police caught Tsutomu Nakamura, the 69-year-old vice chairman of Yaese Town Assembly, driving under influence on Jan. 15, after he gt into a minor accident. The incident was made public Tuesday this week.

Nakamura has admitted to the charges, and says, “I apologize to my voters. I have reflected back on the incident.” However, he does not intend to resign from his post.

According to Nakamura, he had drunk alcohol in a restaurant in Yaese Town on January 15th, and later, while driving home, he crashed into a car that was parked on the road. When the police arrived to the scene, he was questioned, and administered an breathalyzer test that showed he was over the legal limit. No one was injured in the accident. Nakamura reportedly paid a fine of ¥300,000.

Itoman Police admits that they caught Nakamura, but say they did not make the incident public, as Nakamura was not arrested.

Nakamura is serving his third term as the vice chairman of the town assembly. He says, “I don’t remember the exact time of the accident or the amount of liquor I had drunk. It was the first time that I had ever driven under the influence, and all I can say is that I must have been tempted by an evil spirit. I have already reported the incident to the assembly chairman.”

However, the City Council Office says that they know nothing about the incident.
