Disney mulling to build hotel in Ginowan

Oriental Land, the company operating Tokyo Disneyland, has reportedly had discussions with Ginowan City officials about a plan to build a resort hotel on the returned land within so called Industrial Corridor south of Camp Foster.

The government is reportedly considering appropriate support measures, and Ginowan mayor has been talking to the central government about ideas to reuse of the site.

According to sources familiar with the discussions, the 62-hectare site under consideration to construct the hotel is in the southern end of the returned land. The hotel would not be a part of a theme par, but an independent resort facility, like Aulani Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, Hawaii. (https://www.disneyaulani.com

Oriental Land reportedly first considered building the hotel by the seaside, but judging the results of their market research, they chose the Corridor Ward because it’s proximity to the national road and convenient access.

The development of the Corridor Ward is expected to be complete in fiscal 2024 or later according to the agreement between the U.S. and Japan signed in 2013. The Japanese government is reportedly studying ways to speed up the process.

A spokesperson for Oriental Land said that the plan to build the hotel in Ginowan is still under consideration and nothing has been decided.
