Okinawa high school baseball tournament starts
An opening ceremony of the 99th National High School Baseball Tournament of Okinawa was held at Okinawa Cellular Park in Onoyama, Naha City, Saturday.
The Okinawa tournament is the first to start of all prefectures of Japan. 63 teams from 64 schools are scheduled to play, but six
games planned for the opening day were postponed to June 18th due to heavy rain.
At the ceremony, the captain of the Hokuzan High School team, speaking for all players, recited the players’ oath. “This year marks the 45th anniversary of Okinawa’s reversion. Thanks to our seniors who have played baseball under any circumstance, we would like to inherit their strong spirit, and pass it to the next generation. We would like to play and fight with great tenacity in sportsmanlike ways.”
If the games will be held according to the schedule, the championship game will be take place on July 16 at Okinawa Cellular Stadium Naha.
