Yumeseika fruit and vegetable shop offers fresh produce with smiles and cheers
Yumeseika fruit and vegetable shop, specializing in selling locally grown Okinawan fresh vegetables and fruits and organic vegetables, opened its doors this April in the Misato district of Okinawa City, just across a street from Misato Elementary School.
Yumeseika means “Dream of fresh vegetable and fruit” in Japanese, and offering only fresh produce, which pass the JAS (Japanese Agricultural Standard) certification, means all the fruit and vegetables are very safe. Mostly produce in the shop has is grown right here in Okinawa, and the shop operators hope that they can be a part of creating a trust between local farmers and consumers.
Shop Owner Kento Shimabukuro worked in the fruit and vegetable section of a supermarket in mainland Japan for more than 10 years, and that experience helps him to offer just the kind of produce customer needs throughout the year. He takes great pride in personally attending customers every day in the shop, and welcomes feedback and requests in order to fill their needs, and to keep improving his business.
One specialty Yumeseika offers is produce packed in small portions or cut to the size a customer desires, like just for a couple or even a single person. They understand some customers don’t need a whole large vegetable or fruit, and a small portion would suffice. So don’t hesitate and ask to get what you really want and need.
Fresh cut fruit packs are available in the refrigerator just next to the cash register everyday, containing a selection fruit in various size portions. All is, of course, very fresh and only fruit packed and cut the same morning are sold.
Always mindful of his customers, Shimabukuro pays special attention to the display of the produce. All displays on the shop are very clean and simple, making it easy for the customers to find exactly what they are looking for.
Many foreign customers have already discovered Yumeseika, and there are good English language information signs in the shop. The language barrier is definitely not an issue at Yumeseika. The shop accepts payments by credit card, which in itself is quite unusual for any local vegetable and fruit shop in Japan.
Yumeseika also offers fresh smoothies made of their fresh vegetables and fruits. And the smoothies are not made in advance either, but one by one whenordered. All smoothies at Yumeseika are tried and selected by the staff, because they wanted to serve the kinds no one served before. The result is a selection of special smoothies made with the freshest of fruits that taste great and also look beautiful. One can choose between yellow based on fruit, and green based on vegetables. Even people, who don’t like vegetables or fruits, absolutely love these! M size smoothies cost ¥280, and L size ¥350. They are available from 10:00 through 17:00.
The shop is located behind Misato Elementary School near Kadena Gate 3. After exit from Gate 3, turn right towards Ikento Higashi (East) intersection, where you turn left. Go straight about 500 meters and turn right the Misato intersection. Yumeseika is on the right side of the street about 200 meters from the intersection.
Parking is available in front of the shop, and there is also a large parking lot in the back of the shop that has space enough for the largest of cars, just follow the sign.
