Konan High School earns spot in Koshien

Konan High School baseball team won a spot to represent Okinawa at the 99th annual Japan National High School Baseball Tournament at Koshien Stadium in Hyogo Prefecture starting Aug. 7th.

In the final game of the Okinawa tournament Sunday at Okinawa Cellular Stadium Naha, Konan High School that before the tournament was seeded No.4 in the prefecture routed Mirai Kouka High School, the No.3 seed, 15 – 1, to win the championship for the 12th time, and for the first time in two years.

Konan scored hits throughout the game from the beginning. The end score 15 – 1 is the highest in a final match since the inauguration of Okinawa High School Federation.

Konan had a losing record against Mirai Kouka since the autumn final match last year and at the semi-final match this spring. At the final game on Sunday, Konan’ cautious attack and good pitching led them to the win.

The first matches of the National Tournament in Koshien are scheduled to take place on Aug. 7, and the tournament will run through Aug. 21.
