New night entertainment “Matsuri Okinawa” starts

Okinawa Convention Bureau sponsored a new night entertainment stage show “Matsuri Okinawa” in the National Theater Okinawa in Urasoe on July 4th.

The show, aimed at foreign tourists, features 10 different performances, including Okinawan songs, “Shishimai” (lion dance), Eisa, and others, lasting altogether about 50 minutes.

The show is scheduled for a total of 11 runs through Oct. 10 on stages at National Theater Okinawa, Okinawa Convention Center, and Urasoe Tedako Hall. The show is one of Okinawa’s strategic tourism support endeavors during 2017 staged with a government subsidy of ¥21 million. The aim is to hold 40 performances a year attracting a total of 20,000 visitors.

During this season, a large cruise ship “Genting Dream” docks in Naha 5 p.m. every Tuesday, leaving at 1 a.m. Wednesday. Okinawa Convention Bureau sells tickets for the show as an optional tour onboard the ship. They are also available at door.
