Prefectural library to close temporarily in April

The Okinawa Prefectural Library in Naha will be closed in April while it moves into a new facility in the new Naha Bus Terminal in Asahibashi. The library stays partially closed through December 2018 when the new building will officially open.

According to Okinawa Prefecture Education Bureau, “It takes at least eight months to organize all books and rearrange the materials.”

After April when the library will be closed, materials related to the prefecture will be available at “Ryoudo Shiryoushitsu”. Residents who live in areas without a local library, can lend books delivered via mail through the end of June.

The new library will be located on the 3rd to 6th floor of the bus terminal building. It will have a total floor space of 13,000 square meters that is almost double the present one. The capacity of the library will increase to 2.16 million volumes that is about three times more than at present.
