Okinawa’s Illumination Season is Set to Brighten your Holiday Mood
As we enter the final weeks of the Year 2018, the Christmas atmosphere here on Okinawa will brighten up a little bit more with an island wide showcase of illumination displays. From resorts to sightseeing spots, millions of LED lights will fire up the evening sky as we head towards to new year.
The Kanucha Resort Okinawa in Nago City will hold their annual Stardust Fantasia illumination display every day from now through February 14th, 2019 (Nov. ~ Dec. 18:00~23:00, Jan. ~ Feb. 19:00~23:00). This is certainly a spectacle to see as their illumination decorations will cover the entire resort premises. An entry fee is required to see the display; ¥1,000 in advance and ¥1,500 at the door per person. Children under the elementary school age can enter for free with a guardian. Price includes a bus ride throughout the large resort. For visitation during the period of 12/22~12/25 an extra ¥1,000 will be added to the aforementioned prices. Hotel guests, including those who come for dinner, can tour the area at no added charge.
Kariyushi Dream Fantasy at the Kariyushi Ocean Spa in Onna Village will feature more than 1.4 million LED lights from sunset to midnight. Their Aqua Illusion Show occurs twice a day at 19:30 and 20:30, and their Dream Fantasy Live Show will also feature twice a day at 19:00 and 20:00. Entry is free.
The Tonan Night Decoration at the Southeast Botanical Gardens in Okinawa City will run from now through March 31st, daily from 17:00 to 22:00. Cost is ¥1,800 for adults, ¥1,000 for high school students, ¥500 for kids from 6 to 12 and free for children under the age of 6. An extra ¥200 for adults will be added during the period of December 22-25.
The Itoman Peaceful Illumination will be held at the Itoman Agricultural Park, next to the Okinawa Memorial Park in Mabuni, Itoman City, from December 15th to January 3rd. The Itoman Peaceful Illumination was actually the first LED illumination display on Okinawa. Admission is ¥500 for visitors over the age of high school students. The display is on from 18:00~22:00 every day and will stay lit until midnight on New Year’s Eve.
The Ashibinaa Winter Elegance will take place at the Outlet Mall Ashibina in Tomigusuku City. The lights are on every day from 17:00~20:30 until February 14th, 2019. One special feature is their daily artificial snow fall at 17:00, 18:00, 19:00 and 20:00.
The Ryukyu Lantern Festival at the Murasaki Mura in Yomitan Village uses a different form of lighting, but is still great to see during the holiday season. The festival will run through March 3rd. About 5,000 lanterns are on display for your enjoyment. Admission is ¥600 for adults, ¥500 for junior high and high school students, and ¥400 for elementary school students.
The Senaga Starry Night Projection Mapping Show will feature at Senaga Island in Tomigusuku City. Showtimes are 19:00, 19:30, 20:00, 20:30, 21:00 and 21:30 each day until January 31st. Free to enter.
Mihama American Village will light up from now until March12th from 17:30~24:00, free to enter.
The Palette Kumoji Illumination will open to public with their light display from 17:00 to 23:00 until December 13, and 17:00~26:00 from December 14th to the 25th.
And don’t forget the annual Christmas Fantasy at the Okinawa Zoo in Okinawa City from December 22nd through the 30th. In addition to their illumination display they will also feature many stage events, including street dance performances, Eisa, bingo games, a super laser beam show, and a snow fall show every evening. The Christmas Fantasy will open 16:30~21:30. Admission is ¥1,800 for adults in advance and ¥2,200 at the gate, ¥1,000 for kids 4~15 years old in advance and ¥1,200 at the gate.
