A 15-year-old high school girl was killed when she was ran over by a car while crossing the street in Toguchi, Kitanakagusuku, early Tuesday morning.

According to Okinawa City Police Miki Sakuhara, a high school student from Okinawa City, was crossing the street when a 38-year-old office worker ran over her. The student fell and hit her head on the pavement. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead later in the morning.

Police suspect the driver did not pay proper attention to the road, and caused the accident. The investigation to the cause continues.
