Ogimi Village Fair focuses on healthy produce, longevity
Ogimi Village in northern Okinawa is best know as the community with the longest living residents in Japan. But its 3,500 residents also engage in various business activities, and will showcase their activities at Ogimi Fair that takes place this weekend at Ogimi Elementary School grounds and gym.
The annual festival that marks this year it’s 23rd time features fresh locally grown fresh and healthy vegetables and fruit that are said to be one of the reasons people in the village live so long.
On stage local residents from children to seniors perform non-stop fold dances and music, hula and
more. There’s also a karaoke contest for anyone to take part. In addition to sampling local produce there are walking paths in the area where visitors can enjoy a walk in the forest and experience the beautiful unspoiled nature the village has to offer.
The festival is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days, and admission is free. The festival area also has free parking.
