No one is too your to try hand in flying a kite.

For little kids, and adults who haven’t really wanted to grow up, kite flying is both fun and challenging, and this weekend they will have a chance to enjoy their favorite pastime at the Shintoshin Park Multipurpose Hall this weekend.

This is the third time the kite making and flying program is held, sponsored by the Okinawa YMC.  Participants can make their own kite for only ¥500, but can also bring their own.  The kite making class takes place, Sunday, at 10 a.m., with kite flying to follow at 11:30 p.m.  Shintoshin Park is located behind the Okinawa Prefectural Museum and Art Museum in Omoromachi, Naha City.

The kite making concept began at the time of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami when a resident in Hyogo Prefucture by the name Akihiko Nara came up with the idea and a local YMCA took it up. Since then the event spread to all YMCAs in Japan, and now, on March 16^th, all YMCA organizations in Okinawa are holding this event. The kite fee collected is then given to the Sendai and Morioka YMCAs to be used for charity project benefiting the Great Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami victims.
